Outdoors is our favorite place to be! Travel-ready coconut oil makes an easy addition to any backpack, beach bag or carry-on. Whether you’re dealing with dry skin, windburn, scrapes, chafing or other little outdoor mishaps, here are a few simple ways to put coconut oil to work.

Dry Skin, Chapped Hands + Lips
Wind, cold air and long days outside can dry your skin out fast. Coconut oil is one of our favorite things to keep in a backpack because it works on just about everything — dry hands, lips, elbows, heels and rough patches.
Ours is organic, unscented and gentle, and it sinks in without leaving your skin feeling greasy. The travel tubes, packets and wipes are easy to throw in a pocket or bag, so you always have a little moisture when you need it.

Dust, Dirt + Sunscreen
After a dusty hike, beach day or a few days outside, sometimes you just want to get the grime off without needing a sink or shower. Coconut oil works well for loosening dirt, sunscreen and sand from your skin, and our wipes make it easy to do that on the go.
They’re not a “clean wipe” in the traditional sense — they leave a light layer of coconut oil behind — but that’s kind of the point. You wipe away the dirt and end up moisturized instead of dried out.

Altitude + Dry Air
High altitude, cold air and dusty trails can dry out your nose, sinuses and throat fast. If you’re prone to dry sinus passages, cracked nostrils or bloody noses at altitude, a small amount of coconut oil can help moisturize dry nasal tissue.
For oil pulling, swish about a teaspoon of coconut oil around your mouth for 5–10 minutes, then spit it out. It can help loosen buildup, reduce that dry, coated-mouth feeling and leave your mouth feeling fresher when you’re camping, traveling or spending long days outside.

Rash & Bug Bite Relief
Coconut oil is especially helpful for dry, itchy or irritated skin. Its moisturizing properties soften rough patches and support the skin barrier, while lauric acid has antimicrobial properties that can be helpful for some irritated skin conditions. Dermatologist Peter Lio, M.D. has discussed coconut oil as a supportive option for eczema-prone skin and has research to back it up.
And don’t forget bug bites. Coconut oil soothes dry, itchy skin after mosquito bites, reduces redness and keeps the area moisturized and comfortable.
Windburn & Sunburns
Too much sun, wind and dry air can leave skin red, tight and uncomfortable. Virgin coconut oil is rich in naturally occurring fatty acids, antioxidants and polyphenols that help support the skin barrier, reduce moisture loss and keep weather-stressed skin hydrated.
In a randomized, double-blind clinical trial, virgin coconut oil significantly improved skin hydration and reduced transepidermal water loss compared with mineral oil. Research also supports anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity in virgin coconut oil, which is one reason we love it after long days in the sun, wind or cold.

Cuts & Scrapes
Minor cuts and scrapes are part of being outside. Virgin coconut oil helps keep dry, scraped skin moisturized and supports the skin barrier while it recovers.
Its lauric acid content gives coconut oil antimicrobial properties, while its fatty acids help reduce moisture loss and keep the area from getting overly dry or tight as it heals.
How we use it: clean the area first, then apply a small amount of coconut oil to minor scrapes or dry, healing skin as needed.
