Hunger Action Month

Welcome to September – also known as Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month! Hunger Action Month was established in 2008 and is a nationwide campaign committed to “going orange” + raising awareness about hunger in the States. It is our opportunity to be a part of a month-long movement that has a real + lasting impact on the mission to fill bellies and wipe out hunger in our communities.

15.3 million children lived in food-insecure households in 2014 – and an estimated 12 million kids are served by Feeding America everyday. This is 1 in 5 children right around the corner from you! All month long, Conscious Coconut will be giving FIVE meals for every tube purchased at events and trade shows and TEN meals on Hunger Action Day!

'Spoontember' was launched this year and it’s an easy way to join the movement! Dangle a spoon on your nose and take a selfie. Post it and tag #Spoontember and #HungerActionMonth to help fuel the movement and don’t forget to tag @FeedingAmerica.

Here are some other ways to **Go Orange**:

1.
Wear Orange. Encourage your friends, family and co-workers to join you in wearing orange, especially on Hunger Action Day, September 4!

2.
Turn Orange by making your Facebook and Twitter profiles orange on Hunger Action Day, **Thursday, September 4th**

3.
Follow @feedingamerica and @consciouscoconut on social media and raise awareness by using these hashtags throughout September: #HungerActionMonth #GoOrange #FoodInsecurity #Spoontember

4.
Sign-up for the Hunger Challenge from September 14 – 18. You’ll be challenged to eat on just $4.50 a day, the food stamp average. While you take the challenge, tweet what it’s like, and keep the conversation going!

5.
Pledge your support for the more than 1 in 5 kids in the United States who face hunger by signing Feeding America’s Feeding a Strong Future pledge.

6.
Invite your Member of Congress to visit a child feeding program of your local food bank. Congressional visits shine a spotlight on the role food banks play in solving child hunger.

7.
Volunteer at your local food bank and be part of the hunger-relief solution. Share a pic of your volunteer experience with @FeedingAmerica via social media and use the hashtag #HungerAction

8.
Head to your local food bank or Feeding America facility and help pack Backpack Meals! More than 21 million children qualify for free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program and the National School Breakfast Program. For many of these children, school meals may be the only meals they eat. What happens when they go home over the weekend?

The Feeding America BackPack Program helps kids get nutritious and easy-to-prepare foods they need to fill their bellies on the weekends. Today, bags of food are assembled at more than 160 local food banks and then distributed to more than 450,000 children at the end of the week! We LOVE backpack meals at Conscious Coconut and focus our giving towards them each month. Teachers “sneak” the meals inside their kids backpacks when they’re on recess so they aren’t embarrassed in front of their classmates.

Hunger Action Month is our opportunity to join a movement that has a real and lasting impact on our effort to fill tummies more than ever before. Whether it’s by advocating + raising awareness, making donations, or volunteering, you can find the way that’s right for you to make a difference during Hunger Action Month!
