5 Ways to Have a Mindful Summer of Self-Care

We all know deep down that it’s important to take care of ourselves. However, sometimes we don’t go out of our way to do so. Especially after we’ve all been quarantined, it’s taught us to just slow down and breathe. Instead of constantly cramming things into our schedules, we were forced to take it slow. We would even say that maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

Why Should We Focus on Being Mindful?

A few minutes to an hour a day can give our bodies so many benefits -- from our mental to our physical state. Self-care can boost your energy and overall attitude. Not only that, but it can affect our relationships for the better.

5 Ways We Can Be More Mindful

1. Unplug and Reconnect

We get it, it’s hard to “turn it off” sometimes. Right now, we live in a world where everything is constantly go-go-go and we are always on the move. Find a space in your local park or your backyard to just re-center yourself. Meditation is a great way to relax and open your mind.

2. Make a List of Fun Things to Do in Your City

Hooray for being able to go out and about! Depending where you live, make a list of things you can do (while social distancing, of course) in your city. Try that new restaurant patio you’ve always wanted to try or maybe you have been eyeing that new tennis court. Getting out this summer is just as important as self-care!

3. Treat Yourself

Treating yourself can mean a variety of things. Maybe it’s buying that chocolate bar at the grocery store or maybe it’s trying that new local yoga studio. Do something that makes YOU happy!

4. Power Up with Superfoods

I know, I know, you’ve heard it before, nutrition is important. But what’s equally important, is the fact we need to be nourishing our wonderful bodies. A few superfoods to try this summer are berries, fish, leafy greens, nuts, whole grains, and so much more!

5. Daily Affirmations

Make it a practice to start your day with encouraging and uplifting words. As you wake up, everything slowly comes to terms with the real world and opening your mind to new and positive messages can set the tone for the day. A positive attitude will boost your motivation and will help you achieve your goals quicker and easier.
